Jean Austin Gothard Clayton age 87 of Dowelltown went home to be with the Lord Monday night, September 19, 2016 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.  She was born June 26, 1929 to her parents, the late Austin Lee "Hawker" and Ethel Lee McDowell Gothard.

 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death her former husband and the father of her children, Paul Mason Clayton; 1 son, Phillip Clayton.  Ms. Jean was the oldest living member of the Dowelltown United Methodist Church and was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Women.

 

She leaves to cherish her memory, 3 children, Ronald (Cathy) Clayton of Smithville, Susan (Darry) Driver of Dowelltown and Lucinda (Richard) Carter of Temperance Hall; 1 daughter-in-law, Bobbie Clayton of Smithville; 9 grandchildren, Scott (Nicole) Clayton, Chrissy Clayton Means, Ryan (Magen) Clayton, Sean (Christie) Driver, Brad (Kelly) Driver, Jeremy Haas, Stephanie Haas Fagan, Derek (Kelley) Carter and Kari Carter; 13 great-grandchildren, Kaleb and Seth Clayton, Addyson Means, Riley Clayton, Brady, Levi, Garrett, Luke and Ben Driver, Chyannie Fagan, Brayden, Kye and Jace Carter; 1 great-great-granddaughter, Callie Fagan. 

 

Funeral Services were conducted Thursday, September 22, 2016 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Bros. Kenneth Clayton and Perry Clayton officiated with burial will following in Salem Cemetery. 

 

Pallbearers included: Derek Carter, Scott Clayton, Ryan Clayton, Jeremy Haas, Sean Driver, and Brad Driver.

 

 

 

 

 

DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
