Jerry Comfort

Jerry Clayton Comfort, age 70, of Smithville passed away Thursday evening October 28, 2021 at St. Thomas Midtown Hospital in Nashville. 

 Jerry was a factory worker and truck driver.  He attended the Smithville First Assembly of God, where he helped with the church vans and maintaining the church.  Jerry was a community volunteer at Edgar Evins State Park and at God's Food Pantry. 

 He was born June 21, 1951 to his parents, the late William A. and Vernie Mae Byford Comfort, Jr.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William G. Comfort and a brother-in-law, Earl Dyer. 

 He is survived by two sisters, Carolyn Dyer and Barbara Comfort both of Smithville; sister-in-law, Goldie Comfort of Williamstown, NJ; niece, Charlotte (Crystal) Malone of Sparta; nephew, David (Linda) Comfort of Williamstown, NJ; great-nephew, William Comfort; several cousins also survive. 

Funeral service was held Monday, November 1, 2021 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bros. Iain Swisher and Michael Hale officiating. Burial followed in DeKalb Cemetery. 

 Serving as pallbearers were Zachary Pettit, Paul Byford, Larry Briggs, Harold Byford, Carl Malone, and Harold Billings.

 The family asks that donations be made to DeKalb Funeral Chapel to help with funeral expenses, in memory of Jerry. 

 DeKalb Funeral Chapel, Smithville, was in charge of the arrangements.
