Memorial services for Jewel Brown “J.B.” George, 70,  of the Mt. Pisgah community  were held March 22 at the chapel of Smith Funeral Home. Wayne George  officiated, with burial following at  Banks Cemetery.
He passed away on March 12 after an extended illness.
He was born on December 5, 1943 in Murfreesboro. His parents were the late Henry George and Lola Johnson George.
Mr. George grew up in the Mt. Pisgah community in DeKalb County. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as a mess sergent. The majority of his time in the Army was spent stationed in Germany. He enjoyed his time in the military and was proud of his service. Mr. George was a member of the Church of Christ.
Also preceding him in death were daughter Ella George; grandson, Joshua Maynard; seven brothers, Henry George, Jr., Thomas Edward George, William George, Clifton ray George, Marvin George, Tony Leon George and Jerry Nelson George; six sisters, Vivian Thomason, Estelle Brown, Margaret George, Rita Irene Jackson, Marjorie Fisher and Vennie Luke.
He is survived by three daughters, Lola (Gary) Utt of Mansfield, Ohio, Barbara (Rainer) Schaefer of Germany and April (Reese) Remy of Brunswick, Georgia; one brother, Tommy (Dorothy) George of Smithville; ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Smith Funeral Chapel, Woodbury, was in charge of arrangements.
