Mr. Jewell Brown Johnson, age 80, of Smithville passed away Sunday, March 8, 2020 at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville. His wife Helen Bertie Johnson, age 85, passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at Skyline Medical Center.

Jewell was born July 31, 1939 in Smithville, the son of the late Henry & Opha Summers Johnson. Mr. Johnson was retired from Carrier Corporation and attended the Whorton Springs Baptist Church.

Helen attended Whorton Springs Baptist Church, and was a homemaker.

Jewell was preceded in death by his parents, Henry & Opha Redmon Johnson; son, Doug Johnson; step Son, Dwight Cantrell; brother, Willie Johnson; two sisters, Jo Dean Moore and Doris Braswell.

Survivors include two sons, Terry (Judy) Johnson & Jeff Johnson all of Smithville; four step Children, Bennie Cantrell of Smithville, Judy (Tony) Watson of McMinnville, Nita (Joy) Steakley of Coalmont, Dwayne (Barbara) Cantrell of Alexandria. Several grandchildren, great Grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband Jewell Brown Johnson; parents William Pascal and Patsy Evins Taylor; two Sons Doug Johnson and Dwight ; two brothers, James Thomas Paschal and Jimmie Pascal; sister, Willie Pearl Caldwell.

Survivors include four sons Dwayne (Barbara) Cantrell of Alexandria, Bennie Cantrell, Jeff Johnson and Terry (Judy) Johnson all of Smithville; two daughters Judy (Tony) Watson of McMinnville and Nita (Joy) Steakley of Coalmont; brother, Shirley Pascal of Smithville. Several grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

Funeral service for Mr. and Mrs. Johnson was held Thursday, March 12, 2020 from the chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Bro. Mike Carpenter officiated with burial following in Whorton Springs Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers for Mr. Jewel were Glen Hall, Christopher Johnson, Stephen Cantrell, Justin Johnson, Nick Taylor and David Cantrell.

Serving as pallbearers for Mrs. Helen were Wesley Estes, Shannon Taylor, Justin Coats, Phillip Coats, Patrick Cantrell, Daniel Johnson, Bennie Cantrell and Brian Pack. Tim Saylors served as honorary pallbearer.

Donations can be made to the Whorton Springs Church Building Fund in memory of Mr. and Mrs. Johnson.

Love-Cantrell Funeral Home, Smithville, was in charge of the arrangements.
