Ms. Jimmie Irene Carter, age 72, of Smyrna passed away on Thursday, Feb. 1 at St. Thomas Midtown Hospital in Nashville.

She was born on November 29, 1945 in Woodbury  to the late Jim Roberts Crips and Goldie Irene Melton.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her daughter, Kimberly Irene Carter; a sister Beverly Diane Crips and brother Timmy Joe Crips.

Ms. Carter is survived by one daughter, Marschella Carter; two sons, Marshall Lee Carter III (Holly) and Michael Shawn Carter (Jennifer). She is also survived by her brothers, Doug (Gail), Eddie (Ann), Jerry (Rita), Melvin (LeAnn), Jackie (Anita), Billy (Toni) and Ricky; one sister Kathy Jiminez (Ronnie); nine grand-children and 11 great-grandchildren.

Her family remembers her for many things. One being her love of cooking. She viewed Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner as two of the most important meals a family could share. Time with family was priceless to her; she enjoyed spending time with them whether it be around the table or at family gatherings. Ms. Carter is also remembered by her love for the ocean. There are numerous memories of time spent on the beach and deep-sea fishing in Panama City.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, February 5, 2018 at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of Harpeth Hills Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 4, 2018 from 1 – 4 p.m. and again on Monday from 12 p.m. – 1 p.m. Burial will take place at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens following the service.
