Joan Carol (Chandler) Paulsen, 77, of Smithville, died peacefully in her sleep at Alive Hospice care center in Nashville on July 27 at 7:25 a.m.
Joan was born on Feb. 27, 1935 in Rhinelander, Wis., where she grew up and married the late Duane “Duke” H. Paulsen. They enjoyed 38 years of marriage until his death on Dec. 12, 1996. Also preceding her in death were her parents, Fred and Genevieve Chandler of Rhinelander, Wis., as well as one brother, Eugene Chandler.
Joan is survived by daughters, Lori (Roger) Bowman of Smithville and Kelle (Brian) Dorn of Antigo, Wis.; one son, Grant (Tamara) Paulsen of Smithville; three grandsons, Jeremy (Sheena) Zoller of Huntsville, Ala., Justin Zoller of Nashville and Jesse Zoller of Smyrna; four granddaughters, Jayme and Makenzie Dorn of Antigo, Wis., and Tessa and Giana Paulsen of Smithville; a great-granddaughter, Karsen Zoller of Huntsville, Ala.; a brother, Robert (Eva) Chandler of Gurnee, Ill.; her sister-in-law and close friend, Virginia Joan Paulsen; and numerouse nieces and nephews.
Joan had an intense love for her family. She cherished being a wife, mother, grandmother and most recently a great-grandmother. Joan also had an ardent zeal for the worship of her God, Jehovah. She dedicated her life to him in July of 1962. She served him faithfully in Wisconsin, and she was most recently an active member of the Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Smithville, where she zealously fulfilled her dedication until her death.
Memorial services for Joan will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 981 East Broad Street, Smithville on Aug. 4 at 4 p.m. Family and friends are invited to share their condolences and memories of Joan with the family from 2-4 p.m.
