Hayes

Joel Thomas Hayes, age 38, of Dowelltown passed away Monday morning May 9, 2016 at Skyline Medical Center in Nashville. 

Joel was born Feb. 1, 1978 to Shirley Prater Hayes and the late Bobby "Blue" Hayes. 

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one niece, Lindsey Hortert; maternal grandparents, Benjamin and Lucille Prater, and paternal grandparents, J.T. and Irene Hayes.

He was a member of the Prosperity Baptist Church, a 1996 graduate of DeKalb County High School. He graduated Lookout Mountain School of Horseshoeing in 2009, and was a Farrier.

He is survived by his mother, Shirley Hayes of Dowelltown;  sister, Lora (Tony) Hortert of Murfreesboro; niece, Rachel Hortert; two nephews, Christian and Garrett Hortert; lifetime companion, Karen McCormack; two aunts, Marcia (Bobby) Mayo of Woodbury and Barbara (Richard) Harris of Macon, GA. 

Funeral services were conducted on Thursday at DeKalb Funeral Chapel, with burial following in Prosperity Cemetery. 

Pallbearers included; Kevin Prater, Stephen Mayo, Dale Mayo, Christian Hortert, Alan Hayes, and Tim Hayes.

DeKalb Funeral Chapel, was in charge of the arrangements.
