Mr. John Henry Thweatt, age 86, of Smithville passed away Sunday evening, January 5, 2020 at NHC Healthcare of Smithville.
Mr. Thweatt was born July 10, 1933 in Smithville to his parents, the late Clyde & Ruthiene Thweatt. He served his country in the United States Army from 1953-1955. John Henry worked for Tom’s Foods as a deliveryman for many years until 1990 when he was elected to public office. He served DeKalb County as County Clerk from 1990-2002. John Henry was a member of the Smithville Church of Christ. All who knew him affectionately knew John Henry as “The Peanut Man.”
He was preceded in death by his parents: Clyde and Ruthiene McCormick Thweatt; 1 Sister,Thelma Russell; 2 Brothers, Clarence Thweatt and Kenneth Thweatt; 1 Nephew, Phillip Russell.
Survivors include his wife, Dean Thweatt of Smithville; four nephews, Gary Russell of Smithville, Brent (Sandy) Russell of Smithville, Kenneth Russell of Smithville, and Greg Thweatt of California; two nieces, Tammy (Alan) Greer of Franklin and Anita (Jimmy) Puckett of Smithville; one brother, Douglas (Donna) Thweatt of Gallatin; two stepsons, Ronnie Herman and Jayma of Smithville, and Mike (Joanna) Herman of Smyrna; two step- grandchildren, several great nieces, great nephews, and cousins also survive.
Funeral service was held on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 from the chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Bro. Dan Gulley officiated and burial followed in DeKalb Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers were Gary, Kenneth, Brent and Sandy Russell, Jimmy and Anita Puckett and Tammie Greer.
The family has asked that donations be made to the Smithville Church of Christ Building fund.
Love-Cantrell Funeral Home, Smithville, was in charge of the arrangements.
