Funeral services for Mr. John Newbell,79 of Alexandria, were held Nov. 18 at Avant Funeral Home. Jeff Ford officiated with burial following at Vanatta Cemetery.
Mr. Newbell died peacefully at his home on Nov. 15 after an extended battle with cancer.
 He retired from Textron in 1989 with 33 years of service. He was a long-time member of the Alexandria Church of Christ, and a U.S. Army Veteran, serving from 1956 to 1958.
Mr. Newbell was preceded in death by infant son, Kerry Allen Newbell; parents, W.H. Newbell and Etta Bradford Newbell; sister and brother-in-law, Robbie Crawford and J.C. Crawford; brother, James “Dee” Newbell.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, JoAnn Barry Newbell; two daughters, Kim (Ross) Talley of Alexandria and Kristi (Ricky) Sullivan of Alexandria; grandchildren, Brad (Carrie) Talley, Ashley (Brian) Talley Bjork, Dillon Sullivan, Jason (Janna) Sullivan; and one great-grandchild, Connor Talley.
Avant Funeral Home, Alexandria, was in charge of arrangements.
