Funeral services for John Odum Evans, 89, of Liberty were held April 17 at Salem Baptist Church. Bro. Mark Wade officiated with burial following at Salem Cemetery.
Mr. Evans passed away April 15 at NHC Healthcare of Smithville. He was a retired funeral director for over 50 years, a farmer, a deacon at Salem Baptist Church for 55 years, one of the first directors of Salem Cemetery, and a member of Salem Baptist Church for 81 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Hoyte and Annette Odum Evans.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Valeria Groom Evans of Liberty; son, Doyle Evans of Liberty; three grandchildren, Tara and Joe Beck of Madison, Wis. and Bryan Evans and Gwen and Clay Dyer of Murfreesboro; six great-grandchildren, Alex, Miri, and Aaron Beck of Madison, Wis., Collin, Drew, and Nate Dyer of Murfreesboro.
Pallbearers included Jack Cambell, Robert Robinson, Dwight Sadler, Kenneth Mullinax, Dan Fuson, and Thomas Groom.
Love-Cantrell Funeral Home, Smithville, was in charge of the arrangements.
