Mr. John Robert Nixon, age 87, of Smithville passed away Thursday afternoon April 26, 2018 at NHC HealthCare Center in Smithville.

John was born November 18, 1930 to his parents, the late Floyd Vaskel and Clara Mai Christian Nixon.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, June Nixon.

He was a member of the Smithville First United Methodist Church, U.S. Army Veteran having served in the Korean Conflict, a Mason and member of Liberty Lodge #77, was a partner of Amonett -Nixon Chevrolet for 30 years, DeKalb County Clerk and Master for 16 years, farmer and served as Chairman of the Smithville Electric Board from 1969 to 2017 and continued serving as a board member until the time of his death.

Survivors include his two daughters and sons-in-law, Gwen (Harrell) Tolbert and Sandra (J.C.) Wall both of Smithville; one granddaughter, Tara Tolbert and Fiancé, Steve Crook; one sister, Faye Reeder of Smithville; one sister-in-law, Geneva Judkins of Smithville; nephews, Joey Reeder, Larry and Dwayne Webb, Ritch and Mark Judkins; nieces, Ivadell Randolph and Kim Bianchini; special great-niece, Danielle (Mark) Collins.

Public graveside service and interment was held Saturday, April 28, 2018 at DeKalb Memorial Gardens with Bro. Michael Hale officiating.

Serving as pallbearers were Joey Reeder, Larry Webb, Steve Crook, Mark Collins, Jamie Adcock, and Tim Stribling.

DeKalb Funeral Chapel, Smithville, was in charge of the arrangements.
