Lorraine White Engel, 88, of Oak Ridge, passed away Saturday, February 25, 2017 at Methodist Medical Center.
She was born October 23, 1928 in Dowelltown, TN, one of four children born to Robert J. and Bessie Mae Allen White.
She graduated from Liberty High School of DeKalb County and came to Oak Ridge in 1956.
Mrs. Engel was a long-time member of First United Methodist Church where she volunteered her time and talents for many years. She was also active with the Oak Ridge Woman's Club, where she served on multiple committees and as past president.
She was an avid bowler with the KPXY Retirees, where she enjoyed serving as treasurer as well.

 

She also served as a volunteer for ADFAC.

 

Mrs. Engel and her husband enjoyed playing bridge, both socially and competitively with the ACBL.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings, Geraldine Wilson, James H. White and Mildred Judish; sister-in-law, Carolyn Weller and niece, Patricia Ann White.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, John Richard Engel; son, Richard Carl Engel and wife Rhonda of Nashville;
daughter, Teresa Lynn Engel Moore and husband Scott of Apalachin, NY; brother-in-law, Carroll Weller of Mason, OH;
grandchildren, John Engel of Melbourne, Australia, Laura Engel of Chicago, IL, Preston Moore and William Moore of Apalachin, NY; nieces and nephews, Claude Wilson and wife Lana, Mary Ellen Smith, Nancy Wilson, Don Wilson and wife Vicki, Robert White and wife Sarah, Stephen White and wife Vicki, David Judish and wife Karen, Gregory Judish, Nathan Judish and wife Julia and Michael Weller and wife Kathy; and numerous grand and great-grand nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 2, 2017 from 12 – 2pm at First United Methodist Church.

 

The funeral will begin at 2pm. Interment will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
