Mrs. Louise G. Dodd, 89, passed away peacefully on March 24 at Heritage Park Care Center in Colorado.
Mrs. Louise was a long-time fixture in the Smithville community. She and her late husband, Mr. Grady Dodd, ran the Hosiery Mill for many years and then later Lou Ann Fashions. She operated the store well past her 80th birthday, serving many customers and making friends. She was a Baptist.
At the age of 87, she decided to move to Colorado where “her little girl” could take care of her. She quickly fell in love with her new home as it offered her the opportunity to look out the windows from her dining table at the majestic mountain views. Her eyesight was always keen and she never tired of watching what was going on out in the field. Mrs. Louise was quick to announce if there where a herd of elk, deer, cows, a new calf, an eagle, coyote or her new neighbor putting up hay. She enjoyed watching the hummingbirds with her cat Princes and keeping her dogs by her side. She loved getting together with her family and new friends to play bingo, which she almost always won. She also became a bit of an expert at predicting the weather.
Mrs. Dodd was a true Southern lady, always very polite, caring about other people, and she had great taste, especially in clothing.  Anyone that met her knew of her love for Mr. Grady and for Smithville, Tenn. She often reminisced about the town, the people and especially the Jamboree. She cherished the phone calls and cards she received from her friends from Smithville. Mrs. Louise lived a full and meaningful life.
She is survived by daughter Esther RS Claridge and her husband Marvin of Glenwood Springs, Colo.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; several cousins and many friends.
There will be a Graveside Celebration of Life Service for Mrs. Louise at 2 p.m. on  April 17 at DeKalb Memorial Gardens.
