Luther Lawrence, 74, of Smithville passed away Thursday, January 28, 2016 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.

 

Luther was born September 23, 1941 to the late Matthew and Vera Pittman Lawrence.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Debbie Lois Lawrence; two brothers, Kenneth and Carlon Lawrence.

 

Luther attended the Smithville Church of God and was a truck driver.

 

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Nina Neal Lawrence of Smithville; three daughters, Beth Rhody, Leona (David) Jared and Tammy Sexton all of Smithville; five grandchildren, Cora Beth Rhody, Trey Petty, Tyler Sexton, Tonya (Joey) Portilla, and Jerry (Dianna) Jared; seven, great-great grandchildren, Aydalyn Cook, Bentley Sexton, Jared, Jayce, Jaxton, and Tayla Portilla, and Brayden Jared; two sisters, Marie Jackson, and Margaret (David) Davis both of Castalian Springs; one brother, Jimmy (Jean) Lawrence of North Carolina; sister-in-law, Darlene Lawrence of Pulaski, TN; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, David (Glory) Neal, Kenneth (Jeanette) Neal, Jimmy (Carol) Neal, Danny Neal, Betty (Glenn) Byford, Donna Kay (Donald) Knowles, Diane (Danny) Evans; several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews also survive.

 

Funeral services were held Jan. 31 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel.

 

Bro. Jeff Armstrong officiated with burial following in DeKalb Memorial Gardens.

 

In addition to flowers, the family asks that donation be made to the Smithville Church of God Building Fund, Whorton Springs Cemetery or to New Hope Cemetery in memory of Luther.

 

 

 

Pallbearers included; David Neal, Kenneth Neal, Jimmy Neal, Danny Evans, Donald Knowles, and Atony Lawrence.

 

 

 

DeKalb Funeral Chapel, Smithville was in charge of the arrangements.
