Funeral service for Mack Monroe Harney, Jr., age 86, of Smithville was held Dec. 21 at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Royce Martin officiated with burial following in the Whorton Springs Cemetery.
Mr. Harney was a veteran of the Air Force, a nurseryman, member of the Jacobs Pillar Methodist Church, a member of the VFW, American Legion, Rotary Club, and Tennessee Nurseryman Association. He was also a former member of the DeKalb County Commission.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mack and Kate Parsley Harney.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years; four grandchildren, John Harney of Smithville, Michael Hooper of Murfreesboro, Jessica Harney of Chattanooga and Kate Hooper Rodrigues and husband Adam of Raleigh, N.C.; a brother, Dr. Ned and Marilyn Harney of Tulsa, Okla.
Serving as pallbearers were John Harney, Michael Hooper, Adam Rodrigues, Doug Hooper, Alan Webb, James Hayes, Steve Barr and Henry Frazier.
Honorary pallbearers included Gene Cantrell, Tommy Webb, Billy Hawkins, Sr., Logan Hullett, Dan Hancock, Carl Trosper, Bart Lay, Billy F. Hooper, Dennis Washer and Billy Hawkins, Jr.
Love-Cantrell Funeral Home, Smithville, was in charge of the arrangements.
