Funeral services for Marvin “Pete” Parker, 86, of Smithville were held Jan. 2 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Bros. Bernard Houk and Paul Robinson officiated with burial following at DeKalb Memorial Gardens with military honors.
Mr. Parker passed away Dec. 30 at his residence. He served in the U.S. Army in WWII, retired from Ford Motor Tractor Division and was affiliated with Smithville First Freewill Baptist Church. He was also a baseball coach in Birmingham, Mich. and in 1973 coached the Little League All-Star team to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Penn.
He was preceded in death by his parents Marvin and Flora Taylor Parker; a son Marvin Taylor Parker; and two brothers Kenneth and Jack Parker.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years Lucy Parker of Smithville; son and daughter-in-law David and Becky Parker of Smithville; daughter-in-law Michelle Parker of Michigan; six grandchildren Paul Holland and Bill, Brian, Zach, Samantha and Hannah Parker; two sisters-in-law Billie Sue Parker of Smithville and Virginia Shoops of Michigan; nieces and nephews Kenneth Wayne Parker, Greg, Craig, Cindy, George and Janice Shoops.
The Parker family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the caretakers that have helped care for Pete.
Pallbearers included Dave Parker, Zach Parker, Brian Parker, Luke Judkins, Ken Robinson and Bill Parker.
Paul Robinson served as honorary pallbearer.
DeKalb Funeral Chapel, Smithville, was in charge of the arrangements.
