Funeral services for Maxine Matilda Hale Nokes, 83, of Smithville, were held July 23 at the chapel of Woodbury Funeral Home with burial following in Melton Cemetery. Ms. Nokes passed away July 21 at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was a member of the Short Mountain Methodist Church, a retired school teacher at Short Mountain School and Mud College and a member of the Red Hat Society and the Eastern Star.
