Melvin Earl Barrett, age 88 years and nine months, passed away Wednesday April 20, 2022 at his residence in Woodbury.

He was born July 28, 1933 to his parents the late W. H. and Bertha Walker Barrett. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by son-in-law, Larry Prater; brothers, W. T., Donald and Austin Barrett; sister, Ovie Bogle; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Altie and Elzie Vickers.

Mr. Barrett was a member of the Old Pleasant View Baptist Church, served in the United States Army, worked at Carrier Corporation for 29 years and Colonial for 18 years.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Glynda Vickers Barrett of Woodbury; daughter, Pamela Prater of Woodbury; granddaughter, Jessica Prater of Woodbury; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Graveside service and interment was held Saturday, April 23, 2022 at Pleasant View Cemetery with Bro. Russell Vickers officiating.

Pallbearers included Chris Knowles, Ken Knowles, Victor Mesearch, Phil Mast, Trent Vickers, and Logan O'Conner.

Honorary Pallbearers were Taylor Foutch, Thomas Foutch, and Jesse Foutch.

DeKalb Funeral Chapel, Smithville, was in charge of the arrangements.
