Mr. Carl Edward Emerton, Sr., age 78 of Smithville, a native of Sparta, passed away at 12:39pm Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at St. Thomas River Park Hospital in McMinnville.
Carl was born December 2, 1942 in Sparta to the late William Franklin and Bessie Marie Emerton. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his wife Marjory Browning Emerton; sons Kevin Emerton and Darrin Emerton; daughter-in-law Robin Emerton; sisters Dora Emerton Parks, Easter Emerton Parks, Rose Emerton Spivey, Tina Emerton Spivey, Pauline Emerton Dodson, Dorothy Emerton Perry, Betty Emerton Crain and sister Helen Knowles who died on September 3, 2021; brothers Robert, George, Jimmy, Earl Emerton and John Thomas Parks.
He retired from General Motors in Anderson, Indiana in 1994 where he was also a proud member of the UAW. He loved watching Westerns and football games on television, but his favorite time was spent with the ones that knew him as Papa, his grandchildren.
Surviving family members left to cherish his memory include his daughter Kathy (Cliff) Lawson; son, Carl (Jamie) Emerton; daughter-in-law, Bree Emerton; grandchildren, Shaina Poole-Emerton, Brianna (Jon) Allen, Nicholas (Victoria) Lawson, Karissa (Josh) Perry, Blake Emerton, Caitlyn Emerton, Brock Emerton, Bridgette (Nick) Danner, Coulter Baxter, Trace Emerton, Aiden Emerton and Brayden Emerton;
great-grandchildren, Malerie Perry, Kyler Perry, Jaycek Perry, Kensi Allen, Gavin Andrea, Penelope Johnson, Teddy Johnson, Zoey Johnson, Lucas Danner, Levi Danner, Faith Lawson, Grant Lawson
Sister: Marie (Ronnie) Brock; brothers, William (Sue) Emerton, Randall Parks, Mike (Michelle) Parks, Marcus (Beverly) Parks, Paul Parks. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Funeral service was held Saturday, September 25, 2021 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with with Danny Rogers officiating and burial following in Rose Chapel Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers were Ronnie Brock, Dewayne Knowles, John Thomas Knowles, James Stewart, Earl Emerton and Nick Holman.
Hunter Funeral Home, Sparta, was in charge of the arrangements.
