David Caldwell, age 70, of Smithville passed away Friday morning, January 21, 2022 at his residence.
He was a Methodist and worked in retail sales in food stores for years. He was known for his smile, friendliness and willingness to help customers in the stores.
He was born May 6, 1951 to his parents, the late L.D. and Cloie Gay Caldwell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Rebecca "Beck" Ritchie and three brothers, Wallace Caldwell, Larry Caldwell and Bobby Gay.
David leaves to cherish his memory, wife of 40 years, Rita Caldwell of Smithville; two sisters, Libby (Larry) Gibbs of Smithville and Freda (Gene) Lumby of Pierre, SD; three sisters-in-law, Carolyn Caldwell, Jane Gay and Teresa Stanley all of Smithville; brother-in-law, Steve Ritchie of Smithville; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was held Tuesday, January 25, 2021 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bros. Dwayne Cornelius and Michael Hale officiating. Burial followed in DeKalb Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers included Larry Gibbs, Gene Lumby, Ross Stanley, Brandon Arnold, Tony Thomas, and Narrece Dowell.
DeKalb Funeral Chapel, Smithville, was in charge of the arrangements.
