Mr. Donal Gene Koons, age 79, of Smithville passed away Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at his home.

 Donal was affiliated with the Baptist Church.  He was a member of the V.F.W., Moose Lodge, Eagles, a coach and avid teacher for young boys.  He taught Manatee Art League, teaching sculpting and painting.  Mr. Koons served on the Police Department in Yorktown, IN for a few years and he worked with Norfolk & Western Railroad and also with Costal Oil. 

He was born November 1, 1941 to his parents, the late Aaron Gentry and Virginia Ann Monks Koons.  In addition to his parents,  he was preceded in death by two children, Kimberly Kay Koons and Kellie Darlene Koons; siblings, Chester Koons, Aaron Koons, Jr., Harold Koons and Ronnie Koons. 

 He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Virginia "Ginny" Koons of Smithville; four children, Donal (Edith) Koons, Jr. of Oxford, NC, Daniel (Cindy) Koons of Henderson, NC, Dean Koons of Smithville, Shelly (Scott) Dery  of Smithville; six grandchildren, Donny Hedge, Chad Hedge, Nicole Lewis, Jamie Wells, Scott Dean, Cody Dery; four great-grandchildren; brother Robert Koons of Muncie, IN. 

 The family has honored Mr. Koons request to be cremated and no services are planned.

 In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to DeKalb Funeral Chapel to help with funeral expenses, in memory of Mr. Koons. 

 DeKalb Funeral Chapel, Smithville, is in charge of the arrangements.
