Mrs. Betty Jo Atnip, age 78, of Smithville passed away at her residence on Friday morning, August 25, 2023.
She retired as a cashier with the Kroger Corp. after 40 years, attended Whorton Springs Baptist Church, and enjoyed spending time with her family especially Saturday outings with her sisters.
She was born on October 10, 1944 in Smithville to her parents, the late Elmer and Jessie Luna Knowles. She was also preceded in death by six brothers, JT, Lovell, Aaron "Doc", Herbert, Jesse and Elmer Knowles; and three sisters, Joyce Large, Ruby Adcock and Rosa Mae Knowles.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Charles Atnip; son, Ricky (Lisa) Atnip; two sisters, Lois (Jimmy) Davis and Ruth (Ronnie) Hobbs; brother-in-law, John (Betty Jean "BJ") Atnip; sister-in-law, Phyllis (Ronnie) Tramel all of Smithville; several nieces and nephew also survive.
Funeral service was held on Monday, August 28 at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home with Larry Womack and Bro. David Mahan officiating and burial followed in DeKalb Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Jerry Hutchins, Jeff Scurlock, Nick Large, Phillip Prater, JR Atnip, and Hunter Atnip.
Love-Cantrell Funeral Home, Smithville, was in charge of the arrangements.
