Mrs. Estelle Clark Billings, age 91, of Sparta passed away Monday morning April 11, 2016 at her daughter’s residence.

 

Mrs. Billings was born August 15, 1924 in Putman County to the late Willie B. Clark and Rosa Bartlett Clark.

 

She worked 40 years in garment factories in Sparta, Cookeville, and Smithville. After retirement she worked with the senior citizens in Smithville, planning dances and trips to southern states. She loved gardening and taking care of her roses. She worked almost 20 years as a foster grandparent at Findlay, Woodland Park and Head Start schools. She loved helping children with their school work.

 

In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband, John Waymon Billings; daughter, Johnnie Faye Billings; brothers, Sgt. Joe T. Clark and Fowler Terry Clark.

 

Survivors include her daughter, Kaye Lee and husband Charlie; grandson, Charlie Lee Jr. and wife Jennifer; granddaughter, Frances Poston and husband Jack; four great-grandchildren, Amie Jones, Hutch Lee, Matt Poston, and Dillion Poston; five great-great-grandchildren, Zach Knowles, Kaylee Knowles, Ian Jones, Carlie Lee, and Ayla Burton; sister, Janie Harris of Michigan; brother, Lewis Clark of Cookeville; special sister-in-law, Edith Foutch and husband Dan of Knoxville.

 

Funeral services were held April 13 at the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home, with burial following in Oak Lawn Cemetery. Rev. DaWanna Lopez officiated.

 

Pallbearers; Charlie Lee, Jr., Hutch Lee, Matt Poston, Dillion Poston, and Zach Knowles.

 

 

 

Hunter Funeral Home, Sparta were in charge of the arrangements.
