Nicholas Frederick Axen, age 85, of Smithville passed away on January 9, 2025 at Smithville NHC.

He was a graduate of the University of Alabama, a veteran of the United States Air Force, and a member of Monterey United Methodist Church and worked as a supervisor of several paper companies. Mr. Axen enjoyed traveling, reading about history, collecting baseball memorabilia and collecting vintage newspapers.

He was born on February 2, 1939 in Buffalo, NY to his parents, the late Elmer and Mildred Axen. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Noreen Macias. 

The family has honored his wishes of cremation. 

Survivors include his wife, Joan Pollard Axen of Smithville; three daughters, Sandra Hammons of Trussville, AL, Wendy Sims of Smithville, and Heather Axen of Ulverston, England; four grandchildren, Lauren Sims, Bethany Bogle, Danny Hammons, and Devon Anderson; ten great-grandchildren, Landon Colwell, McKayla Colwell, Nicolas Bogle, Zalyn Crowell, Evan Sims, Brinley Dabbs, Issac Anderson, Noah Anderson, Jonah Anderson and Elijah Anderson. 

Love-Cantrell Funeral Home, Smithville, was in charge of the arrangements.
