Nona Dell Odom Wheeler, 88, of Williamsburg, VA passed away on Nov. 6.  

 

Nona Dell was one of seven children of the late Willie and Lillie Mae Odom of Smithville.

 

She graduated with honors from DeKalb County High School, and worked for Congressman Joe L. Evins before moving to Nashville to work as department head for General Shoe Company.

 

In 1948, she moved to Washington DC and worked for the Navy Department, Transportation Office for nine years. She raised two boys before returning to the workforce as a Realtor in Fairfax, VA.

 

In 1939 she retired to Sun City, FL. Nona Dell was active in civic affairs and enjoyed dancing, tennis, bridge, writing poetry and doing the daily crossword puzzle.

 

She will be laid to rest beside her late husband, Col. William Pryor Wheeler in Arlington National Cemetery.

 

Nona is survived by her two sons, Douglas Ellis (Deborah) of Williamsburg, VA and Donald Ellis (Katheryn) of Houston, TX; four grandchildren, Ian, Rebecca, Jefferson, and Zachary; niece Lois (Dewey) Duke of Smithville; brother-in-law, Robert (Bill) Patrick of Wichita Falls, TX.

 

 

 

A service was held in her memory on Nov. 10 at Morningside, 440 McLaws Circle, Williamsburg, VA.
