Ruby Jewell Billings, 91, passed away Feb. 21 at the Gosport Nursing Home in Gosport, Ind. She was born Jan. 6, 1921 in Smithville, the daughter of Herschel and Melissa Cantrell Hayes, and attended school in DeKalb County.She and her husband, Hubert Billings, owned and operated the Billings Greenhouse and Nursery, which was located on West Eighth Street.Survivors include her daughter, Carol Kirkman of Muncie, Ind.; a son Dwight Billings of Muncie, Ind.; two daughters-in-law, Shirley Billings of Oklahoma and Anne Billings of Muncie, Ind.; six grandchildren, Deborah Courtney, Curt Billings, Mike Wray, Dondi (Tommy) Hollingsworth, Susan (Brian) Petty and Melissa Billings; a step-grandson, Todd (Deb) Kirkman; 11 great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Heberon (JoAnn) Hayes of Alabama; a sister, Willene Luna of Florida; and her nephew, Bill (Nancy) Luna.She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Billings; a son, Don Billings; and a son-in-law, Ric Kirkman.Services were held Saturday at Parson Mortuary, Muncie, Ind., with Pastor Mike Thacker officiating. Burial followed in Elm Ridge Cemetery.Parson Mortuary, Muncie, Ind., was in charge of the arrangements.
