Sarah Opal Atnip, age 82, of Smithville passed away Sunday January 14, 2024 at her home. 

She was a nurse assistant and worked at the DeKalb County Health Department for 28 years. 

She was born May 16, 1942 to her parents, the late William Earl DeVault and Helen DeVault Burdett.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by eight children, Rickey DeVault, Anthony DeVault, Terry Ferrell, Jeffery Ferrell, Dennis Ferrell, Garry Ferrell, Larry Ferrell and Charles Ferrell; and brother, Roy DeVault. 

She is survived by sons, Scott Ferrell, Chris Ferrell and Wayne Ferrell; 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and one sister, Faye Wells. 

Funeral service was Thursday, January 18, 2024 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Michael Hale officiating and burial followed in DeKalb Cemetery.

Pallbearers included Billy Newton, Ashton Ferrell, Trevor Finch, Jaime Velazquez, and William Tyler.  Granddaughters served as honorary pallbearers.

DeKalb Funeral Chapel, Smithville, was in charge of the arrangements.
