Tim Hampton, 67

Tim Hampton, 67, of Smithville, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 5 at St. Thomas Hospital in Murfreesboro.

The son of the late Dallas Wade Hampton and Irene Wilson Hampton Moore, he was a military veteran of the United States Air Force and the United States Navy, having served during the Vietnam War. His Navy service included submarine duty.

Tim worked for several years in law enforcement in DeKalb County and the City of Smithville.  While in law enforcement, he served as a patrolman, sergeant, investigator, and as a Drivers Safety and Field Training officer. Tim always made a point to look out for the youth in the areas where he served – making a point to give everyone a fair shake.

He enjoyed carpentry and many outdoor activities, including fishing, but his favorite pastime was playing with his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Joe Moore; daughter, Stacy Ann Hampton and son, Scotty Hampton.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Cheryl Holland Hampton of Smithville; daughters, Jennifer Hampton (Craig) Arnold, of Winchester and Tina Hampton of Chattanooga; sisters, Sharon Roush and Sandy Wilson; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted from the South Pittsburg Chapel of Rogers Funeral Home at 11 a.m. Central time on Wednesday, Aug. 8 with Rev. Wayne Bowman officiating. Interment with military honors will be in the Chattanooga National Cemetery at 12:30 p.m. Central time on Wednesday.

Rogers Funeral Home of South Pittsburg is in charge of the arrangements.
