Vernon Edward Hyde, 86, passed away March 14 at his residence in Knoxville. He was a longtime resident of Smithville.
Mr. Hyde was a member of the Smithville First Baptist Church, Deacon Emeritus and longtime Sunday school teacher. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a teacher, coach and realtor. He was a member of DeKalb County Retired Teachers and American Legion.
Mr. Hyde was preceded in death by his parents, William Edward and Ella Dodd Hyde; infant daughter, Teresa Faye Hyde; two brothers, Garnett and Ray Hyde; and grandson-in-law, Greg Van Dette.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Carnell Roy Hyde of Knoxville; children, Paula and her husband David Crossley of Talbott, Rita and her husband Keith White of Brentwood and Eddie and his wife Mary Hyde of Knoxville; seven grandchildren, Carrie Van Dette, Connie Crossley, Lindsay and her husband Bill Cadaret, Andrew Crossley, Mollie Hyde, Abigail Hyde, Casey Hyde; three great-grandchildren, Joseph Edward Cadaret, Garrett James Van Dette, Tristen Van Dette; and a brother, Hayward and his wife Edna Hyde of California.
Funeral services were conducted March 16 at Smithville First Baptist Church with Bro. Mark Bass officiating. Burial followed in DeKalb Memorial Gardens.
Serving as pallbearers were Andrew Crossley, Casey Hyde, Jim Roy, Nick Smith, Robert Roy and Tommy Dunn
Honorary pallbearers were the Deacons of Smithville First Baptist Church
