William Charles Owens age 71 of Smithville, passed away Saturday night, November 5, 2016 at NHC HealthCare Center in Smithville.  He was born November 23, 1944 to his parents, the late Willie Hobart Owens and Martha Elizabeth Taylor Owens Young.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, W.P. "Bill" Young and brother-in-law, Jerry Thacker.  Charles was a U.S. Navy Veteran, Mason, Shriner and attended the Pomeroy Chapel Brethren In Christ Church. He loved going to tractor pulls and had a passion for antique cars and enjoyed getting together with his antique car friends.  Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Beatrice Dunn Owens of Smithville; daughter, Bethany (Chris) Tramel of Smithville; 2 grandsons, Andrew Owens Tramel and Carson Ryan Tramel; 1 sister, Sue Thacker of Smithville; sister-in-law, Barbara (Burnace) Vandergriff of Smithville; nephews, Tracy McGee and Russell (Lisa) Vandergriff; niece, Lori (Edgar) Pryor; great-nieces, Erin Cantrell, Makala Vandergriff (Brett) Owens and Shayla Vandergriff; 1 great-great-nephew, Ryker Owens; uncle, Doyle Taylor of Smithville; caregivers, Kitty Hagner, Carl Smith, Carolyn Dyer, Teresa Wauford and Julie Vincent.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, November 7, 2016 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Bro. Bryan Jones officiated with burial following in DeKalb Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers: Eddie Taylor, Wayne Taylor, Jeff Taylor, Jeff Taylor, Jimmy Taylor, Juan Miranda, Paul Keith, Jerald Cripps

Honorary Pallbearers: Gary Fruehoff, Mason Carter, Ricky Johnson, Tim Young, Charles Lowe Cantrell, Bill Orrick, Dewayne Young, Ronnie Staley.

DeKalb Funeral Chapel, was in charge of the arrangements.
