Memorial services for William Dean “Bill” Bird, 66, of Smithville were held July 18 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Bro. Michael Hale officiated.

He passed away July 15 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

He was the son of the late Merle and Lois Kercheval Bird.

He was a construction worker and a member of First United Methodist Church in Lakin, Kansas.

He is survived by five children, Sherri Bowring of Frisco, Texas, William S. Bird of Marquette, Kansas, Clint Bird of Covington, Washington, Cristopher C. Bird of Smithville, and Beau Bird of Manhattan, Kansas; five grandchildren, Emily Bird, Shelby Bowring, Skyler Bowring, Trista Bird, and William B. Bird; brother, Leonard Bird of Federal Way, Washington; sister, Jackie Jenkins of Auburn, Washington; significant other, Kat Martin of Smithville.
