Funeral services for Danny Wilson Young, 64, of Elizabethton were held Aug. 22 at Memorial Funeral Chapel. Rev. Dean Smith officiated. The eulogy was given by Chad Young. Interment followed in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Military Honors was provided by the American Legion and Tennessee National Guard. Music was provided by Sally Berry and Bill Anderson.
Danny passed away Aug. 16 at the Veteran’s Hospital in Nashville. He was surrounded by his wife and children.
He was a native of Smithville, he was the son of the late Doak and Audrey Dell Young-Harris.
He was preceded in death by two sisters; Joanna Arnold and Janis Evans.
He had lived in Carter County for a number of years, he also traveled regularly as a mechanical contractor. Danny served in the United States Army, Military Police, for two tours during the Vietnam Era.
He enjoyed woodworking and tinkering in his workshop and was an avid Vols Fan who listened mostly to the Rolling Stones, but had a deep appreciation for most classic rock and anyone who shared a stage with Mick and Keith. He had the best sense of humor and was always making jokes. Danny would give you the shirt off of his back if you needed it, and give you a few extra just in case. He was known as being kind and generous. He will be missed by everyone who knew him.
Survivors included his wife; Kathy Edwards Young; son Chad Young and wife, Casi of Nashville; daughters, Emily Young of Knoxville, Lindsay Young Honaker and husband Brian of Knoxville.
He is also survived by two-step daughters, Selina Stout and husband, Shaun of Elizabethton, and Ronda Carpenter and husband, Joseph of Elizabethton, and their children; Maylie Stout, Gage Stout and Benjamin Carpenter, his niece, Ronda Young and husband Tim of Smithville.
Active Pallbearers included; Ronnie Tramel, Tim Young, Shaun Stout, Joseph Carpenter, Brian Honaker and Joe Smithdeal.
Memorial Funeral Home, Elizabethton, was in charge of the arrangements.
