King Tut's Tomb
Larry Steffee

On November 4, 1922, British archaeologist Howard Carter and his team discovered a step leading to the tomb of King Tut, whose full name was Tutankhamen.  King Tut had died when he was 18, and was buried in the Valley of the Kings in Egypt.  Most of the Egyptian tombs had been discovered, but King Tut’s tomb had not been found.  It was finally found near the tomb of King Ramses VI on November 22, 1922, and the chambers of the tomb were miraculously intact.  An incredible collection of several thousand objects were discovered in the four chambers of the tomb, which included three coffins nested inside of each other.  The last coffin was made of solid gold and contained the mummified body of King Tut, which had been preserved for 3,000 years.

“Words from Above” in the Bible tell us that long before the burial of King Tut, Jesus, God’s Son, was taken from the Cross by a secret disciple of Jesus, named Jpseph of Arimethea.  He wrapped it in clean linen cloth, and laid it in his own personal tomb.  The tomb had been cut out of rock, the body of Jesus was laid in it, and a large stone was rolled across the door of the tomb. The tomb was sealed with a Roman government seal, and guards were stationed by the tomb to prevent His disciples from stealing the body.

Another secret disciple named Nicodemus, who had visited Jesus by night, provided a mixture of about one hundred pounds of myrrh and aloes in order to anoint the body for burial.  Two women, both named Mary, followed after Joseph and Nicodemus to see where the body of Jesus was laid, and then went home and prepared spices and ointments to later anoint the body of Jesus.

In Luke 24, we read that the two women went early on the first day of the week to the tomb to anoint the body of Jesus, but they found that the  stone was rolled away from the tomb, and that the tomb was empty.  They went into the tomb, and did not find the body of Jesus.  They did not know what to think, but at that very moment two men dressed in white told them that Jesus was not there because He had risen from the dead.  Then they  reminded them of how Jesus had said that would be crucified but rise again on the third day.

The tomb of Jesus is still empty, because after He rose again, He has remained alive and will never die again.  If we will invite Him into our lives, we too can live forever.
