To the editor,
After experiencing anguish and cowardice for over a month, I’ve decided to again express thoughts about the need for improved financial support of our school system. Many readers are thinking, “Why doesn’t this guy just give up and realize that an ultra-conservative and apathetic attitude toward school funding can’t be changed.” Trust me, there’s still a chance increased funding for schools is possible. Actually, a silent pre-ponderance of DeKalb County taxpaying citizens daily actions and continuing achievements nurture my optimism.
Our family has lived in this county for eleven years. I’ve observed countless instances where the hearts, souls and minds of God fearing DeKalb County residents have been most instrumental in improving the plight of the needy. Self-motivation and making use of God given talents are collectively crucial factors in improving our world.
If you somehow still aren’t convinced compassionate and informed citizens do make a difference, I’ll provide evidence of this truth. On-going projects, such as the following: Relay for Life, Habitat for Humanity, First Harvest Food Bank and Leadership DeKalb profoundly improve the mental and health conditions of some local residents.
Immediately, many readers could add more officially organized groups to this list. Lastly, just as noteworthy, are the ongoing efforts of the churches to provide food, clothing and shelter to the less fortunate.
Enactment of a WHEEL TAX in our county would definitely be beneficial to our school system. If school officials functioning at all levels would become more zealous in creating awareness of specific areas needing additional funding, citizens might daringly contact County Commissioners and insist on some increased taxation for education.
Personally I think a WHEEL TAX would be the fairest method for generating more revenue for our schools.
If you’re very apprehensive about publicly discussing your viewpoints, contact friends and discuss education issues and taxation.
Collectively, your involvement is the only way that change will ever occur.
