As the Review reported last week, a local woman was arrested by the sheriff’s department for punching her 20-year-old son in the face.According to the official side of the story, the two were arguing over whether the young man, who was drunk and apparently got that way without his mother’s help, was attempting to leave the premises and take to the highway in his inebriated condition.I’m not blaming the deputies involved for doing their jobs, in such situations the law dictates that someone go to jail, and the allegations against the mother clearly state that she struck her son.Now, having said that, I am well past 20, and while my mom and I don't have words very often, I have no doubt that in the same situation she would take a frying pan to my besotted head to prevent me from endangering myself and others by driving in that condition.She wouldn’t be much of a mother if she didn’t.As a matter of fact, I would prefer to physically impair a good friend temporarily than see him drive away in a state that might get someone killed.The sad truth is that sometimes doing the right thing can still get you pinched by the law.That doesn’t mean you didn’t do the right thing.
