Very Recently a classic 1956 Cadillac was stolen from a 106-year-old World War II veteran and former stuntman for actress Rita Hayworth. Curly Bunfill attended a party at Rita Hayworth’s home, and he asked her for a dance. They danced around her many beautiful cars in her garage and she left the Bermuda blue Cadillac Eldorado in her will to Curly when she died in 1987. The car was stolen from his garage, but was recovered and returned by police three days later. The car was sold for about $6,300 in 1956 and is worth much more today, but to Curly losing the car was like losing a part of himself.
“Words from Above” in the Bible tells us that in the beginning of the world, God created the most valuable of His creation, the first man Adam. Part of what made Adam so extremely valuable was that God had breathed a part of Himself into the nostrils of Adam so that he became a living soul. If God had not done that, Adam would have simply been a lifeless lump of clay made from the dust of the ground. Chemists estimate that the materials found in the human body are worth about one dollar.
As a creation of God, man is far more valuable to the Lord than that. God gave mankind rule and dominion over all the rest of His creation and the responsibility of taking care of it. God also gave Adam and his wife Eve one rule to keep in the garden paradise where He put them to live. Sadly, the enemy of God, the devil, appeared to Eve one day in the form of a serpent, and convinced her to eat the fruit of a tree that God had forbidden them to eat from or touch.
The devil stole the souls of Adam and Eve, and brought death to their soul. God punished him by making him crawl on his belly the rest of his life. God predicted that her descendants would bruise his head and he would bruise the heel of her descendants. But there was a much more important prediction involved in this prediction that God made. God was predicting that one of the descendants of Eve would one day defeat the power of the devil and his destruction of the human soul.
The descendant of Eve predicted by God was His very own Son, Jesus, who defeated the power of the devil by dying on the Cross for the sins of the world, and by rising from the dead after three days. The soul of man was recovered from the devil and set free from his power.
