Sometimes we pass over the words war and death as if they mean nothing...
A few times I have visited battlefields where great battles were fought in the war between the states.. I always leave in a very somber mood as I hear again about the thousands who were killed in some of the largest battles.. My ancestors and yours as they died for what they were told was a worthy cause..
I have been reading lately about corpses that are being found in the high snow covered mountains where Italian soldiers died in World War I .. Some by enemy soldiers, but many others by the bitter freezing cold..
Every day in far away places the reality of violent death brings life to an end for young men who are told by older men that their cause is worthy of giving their life for..
We have heard about death and dying so long and so often that we have become calloused to the reality of it.
In days gone by, most folks didn't die in hospitals, and we were very familiar with what death looked like.. I still am and have often stood by the bedside to hold the hand of a friend as they struggled for one more breath..
As an older preacher, I have seen too much death and dying, and have preached too many funerals, and sometimes it bothers me at night when I try to sleep..
One of the great things about heaven: There will be no more wars.. no death ..all these things will have passed away..
No one else will be sitting by the bedside of a child, mother, father, precious wife or husband as they draw their final breath.. No more tears in heaven fair..
Revelation 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away praise God for one of the most precious promises in all the Bible..
Will that be a glad day for you? Be ready for that day.. or you will never see it.. Almost gets me in a shouting mood..
And So Here I Stand..
