We the People

We the voters in America tend to be much like Charlie Brown about to kick the football that Lucy is holding for him..

Somehow we find a way to believe what the candidate tells us, even though we must know by now they are not telling us the truth.. If you want to know what to expect out of a person running for office.. Look at their record for the past decade or so, and you will be able to predict what their actions will be for the next four years..

But we seem blind to the facts.. They promise us to hold the football this time so we rush in to kick the football only to have them jerk it back just like always.. I don't know about you, but I intend to vote for people based on their record over the years, not based on some flowery sounding speech they made on TV the other night..

Mr. Republican.. Ms. Democrat.. I am very suspicious of you both..

Somehow you sound a lot like self-serving politicians who will jerk the ball away when I try to kick it and leave me flat on my back again.. Do you really believe them? Sorry, I don’t.

I am reminded of this when I hear politicians speak.. The Pied Piper of Hamelin (German: Rattenfänger von Hameln also known as the Pan Piper, the Rat-Catcher of Hamelin) is the subject of a legend from the town of Hamelin Germany, in the Middle Ages. The earliest references describe a piper, dressed in multicolored ("pied") clothing, who was a rat-catcher hired by the town to lure rats away with his magic pipe.

And so our favorite candidates come marching across our television screen blowing their magic horn, and like the rats in the story, we go marching after them.. Sorry, I don't think I will follow this time..

"Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves." (Matthew 10:16) That’s the way it looks to me..

So here I stand..
