All-stars defeat Sparta

Little League All-Star season began Monday night in Carthage, when the 9-10 year-old DeKalb County team defeated the Sparta squad by a score of 10-4 in the first game of post-season competition.The Sparta team jumped ahead early, loading the bases and scoring one run in the first, and increasing their lead to 3-0 by the bottom of the third.Dekalb finally got the bats warmed up in the bottom of the fifth, rallying to score five runs and take the lead.DeKalb threatened again in the bottom of the fourth, loading the bases, but not being able to put a runner across.The DeKalb team kept control for the remainder of the game, allowing Sparta only one more run, while DeKalb put five more on the board in the fifth inning.Starting pitcher Logan Cornelius had one strike out, four walks, and allowed three runs.Winning pitcher Brayden Hart took the mound in the fourth inning and gave up one walk and one hit in three innings.Macy Hedge relieved Hart in the seventh, Hedge got one strike out, and gave up a walk, a hit and a run in one inning on the mound.For the DeKalb offensive effort, Brayden Hart and Tanner Poss hit a single and scored a run each, Grayson Redmon singled, batted two runs in, and scored twice.Colter Norris put two singles in for DeKalb, scored twice, and batted two in, and Macy Hedge took a base on balls and scored once. Luke Oliver singled, got an RBI, and scored once, and Tyler Sparks and Logan Cornelius both singled and batted a run across.The win puts Sparta in the loser’s bracket and allows the DeKalb all-stars to advance to face ----- Tuesday night at 8 p.m. at the Carthage Little League complex.
