Tiger Pride was on full display last Friday afternoon as the DeKalb County High School Homecoming Parade rolled into town. Friends, family and students lined the roadways and filled the courthouse square to see the floats, cars, and fire engines.
The procession began at DCHS at 12:30, eventually passing by Smithville Elementary before turning to Northside Elementary for the young students to see the class and club floats. From there the parade made its way back to the square where fans were waiting.
The motorcade was led by the DCHS Fighting Tiger Band, followed by DeKalb Sheriff Patrick Ray, Smithville Police Chief Mark Collins, and the DeKalb Fire Department. Mr. and Ms. DCHS followed, with Homecoming Queen Kyleigh Breanne Hill and her court, next in the procession. Band Queen Savanna Warren was also in the parade, riding in a classic Camaro.
Next came the teams and floats. The Tiger football, basketball, baseball, softball, soccer, and the DeKalb Fishing teams rode on trailers and waved at the crowd, while the Class floats were also on display.
The Freshman Class won first place in the float competition with the theme “Rock the Lions.” Second place went to the Sophomore Class float with the theme “Save a Tiger Roast a Lion,” with the Senior Class taking third place for their “Tiger Menu: Lion Chum,” float.
In the best vehicle category, McKenzie Sanders and Kiley Martin won first place in a gray Mustang, while Emma Johnson and Ryder Miller took second place in a blue Dodge Ram truck. Brayden Tubbs and Amarious Shaw received third place in a white Chevy Silverado. Honorable Mention went to Alexus Turner and Haven Batancourt in a black Camaro.
After the parade the crowd was entertained by a performance by the band and a pep rally led by the Tiger Football Cheerleaders.
The Senior Class came away with this year’s Spirit Stick for their spirited Homecoming Week activities.
