Junior Pro Football started their season last Saturday with the Peewee, Juniors, and Senior Tigers each taking to the field against Fentress County.
The big winner of the day was the Junior Pro Seniors, who shut out the visiting Bulldogs. Skylar Sparks came away with the first points of the game after a fumble by the Bulldogs gave DeKalb the ball on Fentress County’s 30-yard line. In DeKalb’s third offensive play of the game, Sparks would push through for a touchdown. That, followed by a two-point conversion by Desmond Nokes, gave the Tigers an 8-0 lead.
In DeKalb’s first possession of the second quarter, Alan Munoz would put the ball on the Bulldogs three-yard line before Sparks would drive in his second touchdown of the game. A failed PAT put the score at 14-0.
Kobie Snipes would seal the victory in the second half with a 16-yard run to the end zone, giving the DeKalb Senior Tigers their first win of the season, 20-0.
The DeKalb Junior Tigers faced their Bulldog counterparts that same day in what would turn out to be a game of defense. Both teams played to a stalemate during the first half of the game, but it was a special teams play that made the difference.
With the opening kickoff of the second half, the Bulldogs took the one and only score of the game. Fentress County would get the win, 8-0.
The DeKalb Peewee Gold Tigers got their first win on Saturday, defeating the Fentress Bulldogs, 8-6.
It was a game of missed opportunities in the beginning, with both teams marching down the field only to turn the ball over. DeKalb fumbled after reaching the Bulldog 16, with DeKalb getting an interception on their own 30-yard line later in the Bulldog’s drive.
The Tigers would take advantage of the turnover, with Marquez Chalfant taking it into the end zone. That, and a two-point conversion by Ryan Thompson gave the Tigers the 8-0 lead.
The Bulldogs would find the end zone in the second half, but a failed two-point conversion gave the Tigers a two-point lead. DeKalb would hang on to get the 8-6 victory.
The DeKalb Junior Pro Peewee Black Team also played Saturday, defeating the Bulldogs in a scrimmage game. Wesley Kent came away with a touchdown in the game, giving the Tigers a 7-0 win.
