The hometown crowd was back at DeKalb Middle School last week to cheer on the Saints and Lady Saints Basketball teams, each getting a big win, with one team getting a milestone victory for their coach.

On Monday, November 16, the Lady Saints took to the court to face off against border rival Cannon County. The game would start off slow for DMS in the first quarter with Chloe VanVraken scoring the only points for the Lady Saints, a three-point basket. Cannon's Addie King would come away with a couple of two-point shots, while Braelyn Teachout had one. Cannon would take the 6-3 lead.

The Lady Saints would get in gear in the second quarter, coming away with 12 points. VanVraken would get two more three-pointers, while Larissa Mooneyhan and Avery Agee would each get a two-point shot. Bella Dakas would add to the score with a couple of free throw points. Cannon was held to five points, with two-pointers by King and Abilynn Teter and a free throw by Addison Nichols. DMS took the 15-11 lead.

DMS was even better in the third quarter, putting 15 more points on the scoreboard, while holding Cannon to only eight points. Agee had a pair of three-pointers and a free throw, with VanVraken and Dakas each getting one. Dare Collins added a couple of free throws to the tally. King and Nichols each had a couple of two-point baskets for Cannon County. DMS increased their lead, 30-19.

Agee had a three-point shot and a free throw for DMS in the fourth quarter, with VanVraken adding a two-point basket and Collins a couple of free throws. Cannon was held to seven, with King and Nichols each getting a two-pointer, Lakelyn Kilpatrick a couple of free throw points, and Teachout with one. The Lady Saints took the 38-26 victory. The win turned out to be extra special for the team, giving Head Coach Josh Agee his 250th career win.

The Saints took the court next and would have a very good night as well. Right off the bat the boys were on fire, getting 14 points in the first quarter. Jordan Parker had a pair of three-point baskets, while Devin Fish had a three-pointer and a free throw. Cody Love and Dallas Kirby each had a two-point shot. Cannon was held to only two points, a two-point basket by Antonio Jones.

Fish and Kirby each had three-point baskets in the second quarter, with Parker adding a couple of free throw points. Cannon finally got into the game, getting 16 points and cutting the Saints' lead. Tim Pelham had two three-point baskets, a two-pointer, and two free throws, while Jones had a couple of two-pointers and Lucas Phillips had one. The Saints' lead shrank, 22-18.

The Saints got back to business in the third quarter, scoring 15 points. Fish sank a pair of three-pointers, while Love and Ian Barnes each had one. Owen Snipes also added three points off of free throws. Cannon was held to eight points, with Pelham getting a three-point basket, and Odom getting a pair of two-pointers. Jones added a free throw shot. The Saints were up, 37-26.

DMS sealed up the victory in the fourth quarter, coming away with 13 points and holding Cannon to only two. Parker sank a three-pointer, while Love had a two-pointer and three free throw points. Kirby and Barnes each had a two-point basket, with Jon Hendrix adding a free throw point. Pelham scored the lone two-point basket for Cannon County, giving the Saints the 50-28 win.

On Thursday, November 19, the DMS teams were on the road, this time taking on tough teams in Pickett County. In the Lady Saints' game, the girls found points hard to come by. Dakas had a three-pointer in the first quarter, along with a free throw point by VanVraken. Pickett County owned the court, and took a 20-4 lead.

Agee had a three-point shot and a free throw in the second quarter, with VanVraken and Collins each getting two-point baskets. Pickett continued there ways, adding 13 points, and taking a 33-12 lead at the half.

Collins and Agee each had a pair of two-point shots in the third quarter, but Pickett added 20 more to its side of the scoreboard. Their lead increased, 53-20.

The Lady Saints would only get four points in the final quarter of the game, two free throws each by Collins and VanVraken. Pickett County only scored four points of their own, but it was more than enough. Pickett took the 57-24 win.

The Saints evening would be no better. Kirby and Seth Fuson each had a two-point basket in the first quarter for DMS, while Pickett put up 21.

It would only get worse in the second and third quarters for DMS, being shut out while Pickett added 17 more. Pickett County was up 38-4.

The Saints finally found the hoop in the fourth quarter, but it would be to little, too late. Logan Duke had a couple of two-point shots, with Ty Webb getting a two-pointer and a couple of free throws. Barnes also had a two-pointer. Pickett only scored two points in the final quarter, but it was plenty enough for the 40-14 victory.

The Saints and Lady Saints will take a couple of weeks off during the Thanksgiving holiday, with their next games scheduled December 4th, on the road against Sparta.
