DeKalb Youth Baseball was on the field once more last week, with several teams competing in the Tennessee Youth Baseball Association’s State Open Championships held in Murfreesboro.

In the 5 to 6-year-old division, DeKalb got a 23-3 victory over the Algood Diamond Dawgs on Friday, then came back on Saturday to beat Warren County, 11-6, and the Smyrna Dirtdawgs, 15-13.

On Sunday, DeKalb won the first game, beating the Huntland Stars in a close game, 17-16. Their next game would not be as fortunate, falling to the Lascassas Muck Dogs, 15-9.

The team tied for third place in the tournament.

In the 11 to 12-year-old kids pitch division, DeKalb won over Woodbury 13-4 in their first game on Saturday, then got a win over Country Boy Fencing in a close 9-8 game. The team then took on the Murfreesboro Vandals and came away with another win, 6-1.

On Sunday, DeKalb continued where they had left off. The team took an 11-5 victory over Country Boy Fencing in their first game, then got a win over the Christiana Reds, 10-7.

In the championship game, DeKalb faced off with Manchester Youth Baseball, but the results were not what fans had hoped for. DeKalb fell 15-1, taking second place in the tournament.

In the 13-year-old and up kid pitch division, the DeKalb travel team had a rough weekend. On Friday, the team lost to Manchester, 10-2, then came back on Saturday to fall to the Middle Tennessee Explosion, 5-3, and LC Velocity, 14-0.

On Sunday, DeKalb fell to the Buchanan Yellow Jackets, 5-1.

The previous week, at the TYBA State Tournament, the 13 to 16-year-old DeKalb travel team took second place for the weekend.
