

The DeKalb West School Bulldogs baseball team was back on the field last week, getting a win over Stone Memorial, before falling in a low-scoring game against Watertown.
On Friday, April 14, the boys traveled to Crossville to take on the Panthers. The Bulldogs would get on the board first and hang on for the win.
At the top of the first, Tucker Webb singled on a ground ball to second, then Luke Johnson got a walk. Silas Kirksey was up next and grounded out to first as Webb took third and Johnson second. Preston Taylor would walk, followed by a double on a line drive to right by Porter Hancock. Webb and Johnson scored while Taylor took third. Stone would get on the board with one run at the bottom of the inning, but DWS was up 2-0.
Stone would tie up the game with another run at the bottom of the third, but the Bulldogs would pull away at their next at bat. Cooper Odom reached on a grounder and an error by second, and would take second on the error. Ben Driver then singled on a grounder to short as Odom scored. Webb was up next and hit a hard ground ball and reached on an error by second as Driver scored. DWS was back on top 4-2.
The Bulldogs would cap off their score at the top of the fifth. Preston Taylor got a walk, then Hancock singled on a grounder to third. Elliot Barnes then singled on a ground ball to the pitcher as Keegan Taylor, running for Preston, scored. Hancock would also score on the error. DWS held a 6-2 lead and that would be where the score would stay.
Luke Johnson claimed the win from the mound.
On Tuesday, April 18, the Bulldogs would claim another win as they took on Tuckers Crossroads in Lebanon. Tucker Webb would have a double, triple and an RBI in the game, while Kirksey and Hancock each had a double and an RBI. Johnson, Odom, Carson Davis, Reed Midgett and Collin Donnell would each have singles in the game.
The Bulldogs took the 11-1 victory with Young claiming the win from the mound.
On Thursday, the boys took on Watertown and would fall in a narrow defeat. Watertown took the lead in the first inning with three runs. DWS would close the gap as they came to bat after Driver got a walk and Johnson singled on a line drive to left. Kirksey would step to the plate and double on a fly to center as Driver crossed home. Later, Tayler would sacrifice out to center as Morgan Smithson, running for Johnson, scored.
Watertown would score one more run at the top of the third, and that would be where the score would stay through five innings. Watertown took the 4-2 win.
Johnson took the loss from the rubber, going five innings, allowing nine hits and four runs, striking out five.
