The DeKalb West School Bulldogs Baseball team claimed a pair of victories last week, taking an impressive win over Cannon County, then holding on for a close win over Smith County.
On Tuesday, April 6, the Bulldogs were on their home field as they hosted the Cannon County Lions. It would be a big day for DeKalb.
Ty Webb got the Bulldogs on the board first at the bottom of the first inning with a grounder to left field, driving Jordan Parker home. Then, Parker scored after Westley Kent to the pitcher. After that, Tyler Jackson stole home after a wild pitch.
Next up, Luke Johnson singled on a grounder to left field, as Jon Hendrix scores off of an error. Later, Devin Fish singled on a ground ball to third, as Luke Midgett touched home plate. DWS was up, 6-0.

The following Thursday, the Bulldogs would be in a much tougher game, as they traveled to Smith County.

The Bulldogs would tie things up in the second, when Fish grounded out to shortstop, allowing Hendrix to cross home plate.
The Bulldogs would strike again in the third inning, when Ty Webb doubled on a line drive to center field, allowing Kirby to score, then, as Jackson was up to bat, Webb stole third, then scored off of a passed ball. DWS took the slim lead, 3-1.
SCMS made things interesting at the bottom of the third, scoring one more run, but as it would turn out, that would be the last point of the game. The game would go into the fifth inning, and the Bulldogs would hold on to claim the 3-2 win.
Kirby was the winning pitcher, throwing four innings, walking one and striking out seven. Parker pitched one inning with one strike out.
