The DeKalb West School Bulldogs played a double header last week at home, playing two games against Prescott last Friday. They would dominate both games.
In the first game, DeKalb West only allowed one single run in the game while scoring 11 of their own. The Bulldogs got on the board first in the bottom of the first after Preston Taylor and Porter Hancock each got a walk. Reed Midgett then stepped up and singled on a grounder to short, sending Taylor home.
In the second inning, Collin Donnell singled on a line drive to left, and would later score after a triple fly to right by Cooper Odom. Anthony Moore would walk, then Taylor reached on a pop fly and an error at second, as Odom and Moore each crossed the plate. Hancock would then walk, followed by Midgett with a single line drive to left, sending Taylor home and Gavin Frazier, who was running for Hancock. DWS was up 6-0.
Prescott wound manage to get a single run on the board at the top of the fourth, but the Bulldogs would seal things up at their turn at bat. Odom singled on a grounder to short, followed by Moore taking a HBP. Hancock would later single on a grounder to short as Odom scored, then he would steal home as Midgett was at the plate. Midgett and Donnell would each walk, then Carson Davis tripled on a line drive to second. Courtesy runners Maddux Pyburn and Keegan Taylor would each score. DWS was up 11-1.
The game would go to the top of the fifth, but it was too much for Prescott. The Bulldogs took the 11-1 win. Elliot Barnes earned the win from the mound, giving up one run and one hit over four innings, striking out seven and walking three. Donnell pitched one inning in relief.
In the second game, Prescott would take the early lead, but the Bulldogs would pounce late.
Prescott scored one run at the bottom of the first, but it would be the top of the third before the Bulldogs were on the board. Andrew Cathey singled to short, then Moore got a walk. Cathey would get picked off at second, but Odom would take second on a passed ball. As Taylor was at the plate, Odom took third on another passed ball, then scored on a steal of home. Taylor then stepped back to the plate and tripled on a line to left, sending Moore home.
Hancock would get a walk, then Midgett grounded out to short, but Hancock and Taylor would score. Barnes singled on a fly to center, then Donnell did the same. Barnes would steal his way home, but Donnell would be caught at second, getting Prescott off the field. DWS was up 5-1.
The Bulldogs added two more runs at the top of the fourth, after a single fly to right by Cathey, and later a walk for Moore. Taylor would next hit a double fly to center sending Cathey and Moore across the plate. DWS held a 7-1 lead.
Anderson Fortner singled for the Bulldogs at the top of the fifth, then Donnell doubled on a line drive to left, sending Frazier, running for Fortner, home.
Prescott had one more at bat, but DeKalb held on for the 8-1 victory. Midgett earned the win surrendering three hits and one run over three innings, striking out five and walking two. Donnell threw one and a third innings in relief.
