The DeKalb West School Bulldogs baseball team ended their season last week, going out on top with a big win over Avery Trace. The Bulldogs pulled away late in the game to secure the victory. The game also served to honor the team’s senior players, being recognized with their families during Eighth Grade Night.

On Tuesday, April 27, the Bulldogs were at home where they faced off with Avery Trace, a team DWS had faced in a narrow game before. The Raiders would get on the board first, scoring two runs at the top of the first inning, but DeKalb would pressure with a run of their own.

First at bat for the Bulldogs, Devin Fish, would get on base with a walk. Later, Ty Webb doubled on a hard grounder to left field, sending Fish home. DWS cut the lead, 2-1.

The action wouldn’t pick up again until the bottom of the third, when, with bases loaded, Tyler Jackson doubled on a hard ground ball to center field, allowing Fish and Dallas Kirby to cross home plate. After that, Westley Kent singled on a grounder to center field, as Webb and Jackson scored. Later, Jordan Parker singled on a line drive to right field, sending Kent home. Then, Luke Johnson stole his way home after a wild pitch. The Bulldogs held a 7-2 lead.

The game would go to the fifth inning, but Avery Trace would not be able to recover. The Bulldogs would take the 7-2 win to end their season.
