The DeKalb West School Bulldogs traveled to Tuckers Crossroads early last week, before ending the week at home against Wilson and Smith County.
On December 4, the boys traveled to TXR where they would face a tight game. The Bulldogs scored eight in the first period, with a three-pointer by Carson Davis, a two-point basket and a free throw by Levi Cripps, and a two-pointer by Porter Hancock. TXR stayed close scoring seven.
The Bulldogs added four to the board in the second, with a two-point shot and a free throw by Cripps, and a free throw point by Maddux Pyburn. TXR jumped ahead with six points and the 13-12 halftime lead.
DWS put four more on the board in the third period, off of a pair of two-point baskets by Hancock. TXR also scored four, keeping the game tight, 17-16.
The Bulldogs came away with eight points in the fourth period, with Hancock sinking a two-pointer and a pair of free throws, Cripps with a couple of free throws, and Drew Cook with a two-point basket. TXR managed three points, giving the Bulldogs the 24-20 victory.
The following Thursday, the boys were back on their home court, hosting Wilson. It would be another good night for DWS.
The Bulldogs lit up the scoreboard in the first period, scoring 23 points. Porter Hancock hit four two-pointers and four free throws, while Levi Cripps added a pair of two-pointers, a couple of three-point shots, and a free throw point. Wilson came away with 10 points.
DWS added 19 more to the board in the second. Cripps had three two-pointers, and a pair of three-point baskets, while Jackson Lattimore added a three-pointer, and Landon Holmes a couple of two-pointers. Wilson was held to eight points, giving DeKalb the 42-18 lead at the half.
Carson Davis and Hancock each had a couple of two-point shots for the Bulldogs in the third, while Domminic Willianson and Maddux Pyburn each had one. Wilson scored 10. DeKalb was up 54-28.
The Bulldogs ended the game with nine more points. Lattimore hit a three-pointer and a free throw, Hancock and Holmes each had a two-pointer, and Pyburn a free throw. Wilson was held to four, giving DWS the 63-33 win.
The Bulldogs would continue their winning ways the following day at a rare home day game. DWS would host the Smith County Owls.
DWS put 17 on the board in the first period, with Cripps hitting a two and three-point basket, Hancock a pair of two-pointers and a couple of free throws, Drew Cook with a couple of two-pointers, and Carson Davis with one two-point shot. Smith was held to six points.
The Bulldogs rolled on with 12 points in the second. Davis had a pair of two-point shots, Cook a two-pointer and a free throw, Cripps a three-pointer, and Holmes a two-pointer. Smith managed six points, giving DeKalb the 29-10 halftime lead.
Davis and Hancock each had a pair of two-point baskets for the Bulldogs in the third period, while Cripps had one. Smith was held to three, with DWS up 39-13.
Bentley Westley hit a three-point shot for the Bulldogs in the fourth period. Smith came away with six points, but DWS claimed the 42-19 victory.
