



The DeKalb West School Bulldogs basketball team kicked off its season last week, playing a couple of home games before hitting the road to take on Wilson Elementary.
On Monday, November 6, the boys were on their home court where they took on visiting Southside. The Bulldogs would start the season off right.
The Bulldogs put 20 points on the board in the first period, with baskets by Drew Cook, Porter Hancock, Levi Cripps, Maddux Pyburn, and Domminic Williamson. Southside would be held to just 13 points.
DWS would add 11 more points to the board in the second period, with Cook, Hancock, Cripps, Pyburn, and Williamson continuing where they left off. Southside was held to just six points, giving the Bulldogs a 31-19 halftime lead.
In the third period, Carson Davis sank three two-point shots, while Cripps and Williamson each had one. Once again, Southside was held to six. The Bulldogs were up 43-25 at the end of three.
The Bulldogs would end the game with eight more points, with a pair of two-pointers by Williamson, and Cook and Hancock with one each. Southside would answer with 14, but DWS would claim the 51-39 win.
The following evening, the Bulldogs were back on their home court, this time taking on Caroll Oakland. This would be a much closer game.
DWS would start the game with 10 points in the first period. Carson Davis had a two-point basket and a pair of free throws, while Levi Cripps had a couple of two-point shots of his own. Porter Hancock also had a two-point shot. Caroll Oakland was held to just two points.
The Bulldogs added nine points in the second period, with a three-pointer by Cook, a two-pointer by Hancock, and a two-pointer and pair of free throws by Davis. Caroll Oakland got moving with 12 points, cutting the lead at halftime, 19-14.
In the third, the Bulldogs were held to six points with two-pointers and free throws by Cook and Cripps. Caroll Oakland surged ahead with nine points, cutting the lead the 25-23.
It would come down to the fourth period. Cripps would hit a three-point shot, while Cook added a two-point basket. Davis hit a two-pointer and four free throws. Carol Oakland pushed through with 10 points, but the Bulldogs held on to claim the 36-33 victory.
The following Thursday, the Bulldogs would be on the road, this time taking on Wilson Elementary. This outing would not go well for DWS.
The Bulldogs scored seven points in the first period with a two and three-point basket by Cripps and a two-pointer by Davis. Wilson would inch ahead with eight points.
DWS was held to just five points in the second period, with a two and three-point shot by Davis. Wilson was held to just three points, giving DeKalb a narrow 12-11 halftime lead.
Williamson sank a three-pointer for the Bulldogs in the third, while Cripps and Davis each had a two-pointer. Cook added a couple of free-throw shots. Wilson surged forward with 15 points, taking the 26-21 lead.
The Bulldogs would only come away with nine points in the fourth, with Cook hitting a couple of two-pointers, a three-pointer, and a free throw, while Maddux Pyburn had a free-throw point. Wilson added 10 points, taking the 36-30 win.
