Bulldogs Place in Tourney

The Bulldogs Junior varsity team placed third and the Forks River Tourney.

The DeKalb West School Bulldog basketball team was in action last week, taking part in the Forks River Tournament.

On October 30, the Bulldogs took on Union Heights and would come away with a big win. DWS scored 18 points in the first period, with a three and two-point shot by Nick Murphy and Conner Tally, as well as a pair of two-pointers by Cameron Stanley, and two-point baskets by Ethan Brown, Ben Driver, and Chase Young. Union Heights was held scoreless.

The Bulldogs had 12 points in the second period, with Presley Merriman getting four two-pointers, while Kolby Singer and Ben Barton each got one. Union Heights scored nine points, but DeKalb held a 30-9 halftime lead.

DWS was held scoreless in the third, while Union Heights cut the lead by adding eight. The Bulldogs were still up 30-17.

DeKalb West scored 10 in the fourth, with a pair of two-pointers each by Stanley and Tally, while Young had one. Union Heights scored five, but the Bulldogs took the 40-22 win.

That same day, the Bulldogs took on the tournament host, Forks River. DWS would not have the same outcome as before.

The Bulldogs scored three points in the first period, with Tally sinking a couple of free throws, while Young had one. Forks River jumped out big, getting 14 points.

Stanley, Young, and Porter Hancock each had a two-point basket in the second period, but Forks River added nine. They took the 25-9 halftime lead.

It was Stanley and Young again in the third period, each getting a two-pointer, but again Forks River added nine points. They were up 34-13.

The Bulldogs came away with 12 points in the fourth, with Nick Murphy getting a three and two-pointer, while Barton, Brown, and J.T. Summers each had a two-point shot. Forks River was held to four, but it was more than enough. They took the 38-25 victory.

The Bulldog varsity team won fourth place in the tournament, while the JV team came in third.

On November 5, the varsity Bulldogs were back on the court, this time taking on Southside. It would turn out to be a close game.

The Bulldogs would come away with eight points in the first period, with Chase Young getting a pair of two-point shots, while Cameron Stanley and Conner Tally each had one. Southside took the lead with 11 points.

Nick Murphy had a three-point basket in the second, while Kolby Slager added a two-pointer. Southside was held to four, giving them a narrow 15-13 halftime lead.

Young came away with a two-pointer and three free throw points in the third, while Stanley added a free throw of his own. Again, Southside was held to four, tying the game 19-19.

Ben Driver shot a three-pointer and a two-pointer in the fourth, while Young added a two-point shot, and Murphy had a pair of free throw points. Southside was held to six points giving DWS the 28-25 victory.
